I am a nonprofit. Am I required to have a State Business License?
Non-profit entities organized pursuant to NRS Chapter 82 are not required to have a State Business License. Non-profit entities organized pursuant to NRS 81 must file the Declaration of Eligibility for Exemption form along with their initial or annual list if they hold a 501(c)3 designation.
All entities whether they receive a State Business License, Exception or Exemption are assigned a Nevada Business Identification Number. This number is important for being able to register with State and local agencies in Nevada.Note: SilverFlume Nevada’s Business Portal guides the customer through the registration steps, including registering at the Nevada Department of Taxation and other agencies. Businesses are advised to complete all steps in the registration checklist regardless of the Secretary of State’s exception or exemption.
